Key West Part I

During a recent work trip, I was able to get out and visit Key West during the holidays.

The Overseas Highway through the Florida Keys.

Yes, I made it to the hotel.

Danger...shark crossing!

Key lime pie in Key West.

On my day off, I rented an old, rusty bike to cruise around the island. Really, bikes are the best mode of transportation around this area if you are just site-seeing.

It was a bright and sunny day.

...but I did find some shady spots along the way.

I at least got to find one selfie spot without a line. Maybe this is just for those of us from the east coast.

...and from the other side.

Christmas tree made of old lobster traps?

A Christmas tree decorated with life rings and star fish?

Cuban Coffee Queen...I ate at these locations several times on my trip.

Yes, I drink coffee even in the blazing hot winter sun here in Key West.

Nice little snack in the shade.

The cruise ships were in town while I was there, of course.

I went to the local State Park. Its cheaper to get in on a bike instead of a car. I should have renewed my membership card for Florida State Parks using my veteran's benefit of free access. They were more strict here than in other parks throughout the state. They won't take military ID or the VA card, I needed the parks card issued by the state.

Touring the old fort was educational.

It was also a nice walk for the view...

...and for the shade.

Some of the old pieces were on display.

Outside of the fort were trails to see it from the outside.

Another view.

This bird was hard to miss. You could hear him from far away.

I saw the advertisement for Onlywood Pizzeria on the hotel TV. I wanted to check it out because of the fresh mozzarella made daily and the wood fired pizza.

Starting with the mozzarella caprese and aranciata to drink.

Wood fired pizza.

After dinner cappuccino.

And of course dessert.

It was a huge meal.

To be continued...
