Trip to the Art Museum

This post has been put off for a while but I'm finally getting around to writing.

We took a little trip to Palm Beach, FL and went to the Norton Gallery of Art. At this time the building is going through massive renovations so only a small section is open. The current gallery is such a small portion of what the museum will be and because so little of the art is on display, the museum is open to the public for free! We enjoyed our time there and will definitely want to come back when the museum is open again with everything on display. By that time, Ethan will be older and able to enjoy a longer trip to the museum.

Here are some of the highlights of what we saw:

This was the main reason we came to the museum. There was an exhibition called "Miss Lucy's 3 Day Dollhouse Party". We came expecting to see dollhouses as works of art and we wanted to see the intricate designs of antique dollhouses.

The exhibit ended up being rather simple antique dollhouses with miniature paintings. It was nice but nothing what we were expecting and not worth the drive. I've seen better dollhouses outside of art galleries. Seeing small paintings cover up dollhouse walls seemed like the dollhouse makers weren't interested in attention to detail as far as miniature dollhouses were concerned but rather used the mini-paintings to cover up blank walls that should have had intricate detailing. Overall, it was OK but not worth posting more pictures of.

I liked this exhibit. The room was full of two-dimension Earth prints that all looked three-dimensions. I really had to get close to the print to see that it was not 3-D. Ethan was not as impressed.

Instead, Ethan really liked the modern abstract art. I don't remember the artist on this one.

Between the two pieces, Ethan liked the flowers. I wish I remembered the artist, but I can't seem to remember. I just remember that the piece on the left is a pastel sketch by Pablo Picasso.

"Man with Carnation" by Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Someone thought we all looked the same.

We enjoyed the rest of the 20th Century abstract art section particularly the cubism which had more pieces by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque.

By the time we finished and I toured the 20th Century gallery again, Ethan was getting pretty tired and the gallery was about to close, so we took a few more photos and left for the day.

I'm sure we'll be back once construction is complete and I will post again one day but will take more care to remember the names of the pieces and artists.
