So Toys R Us is going out of business.

There we are :) |
Everyone my age grew up with Toys R Us. If we were lucky, we got to go but did not always get what we wanted. It was always a special treat to go. Now as an adult I could go anytime I wanted to and get whatever I wanted (I don't really get much). I remember getting bikes there as a kid. I think what I remember most is going there for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures. They were always out of stock or only had the characters no one wanted. One day a worker was opening a brand new case and several kids, including myself, just started pulling the toys out of the box before he could put them on the shelf. Our parents were telling us not to be rude but we hadn't seen the actual turtle figures on the shelf whenever we went. At least my mother realized this was a once-in-awhile opportunity and got me more than one.
That doesn't seem to happen anymore. If you want a limited edition toy or hot figure you get it online and what is left at the toy store is common. I guess that is one reason Toys R Us is out of business.
Well I was still going. Actually, I was going to Babies R Us more often for baby supplies. We would still check out the toys but wouldn't always get them. I had been going to Toys R Us several years in a row on Black Friday for the Toys for Tots campaign. Last year I began noticing the same toys at Ross or TJ Maxx for less than Toys R Us even on Black Friday. I guess that is another reason Toys R Us is out of business.
Well, just like everyone else we went to see if there were any going-out-of-business sales. There were some deals but overall, I swear, they marked up their prices before they marked everything on sale. I'm an eBay power seller so I notice when I see something I can sell and take a mental note of how much it costs. The toys I remember over Christmas were less expensive than when the store was going out of business. Still, we found some clothes at deep discount for Ethan but the majority were more expensive than over Christmas and much more expensive than online retailers.
So progress has killed Toys R Us. I suppose it was a matter of time.

Not much selection of clothes. Most of the shelves for Babies R Us were filled with overstock toys. |

So this is how I will remember the final days of Toys R Us |
